RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1384

A resolution recognizing Mr. Homer R. Wheaton on the occasion of his retirement from Tennessee State University.

WHEREAS, on July 1, 2006, Mr. Homer R. Wheaton, a pillar of Tennessee State University and an instrument for change, retired having served for 52 years with distinction and loyal services to Tennessee State University, serving as Associate Vice-President for University Relations and Development from 1991 until his well-deserved retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Homer R. Wheaton attend Tennessee A & I State College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from Tennessee State University where he also majored in Business Administration; and

WHEREAS, during his fine career, Mr. Wheaton served as an educator, financial aid officer, civic leader, activist, trustee, liaison, and recruiter among other distinguished roles; and

WHEREAS, no stranger to awards and accolades, Mr. Homer R. Wheaton has received numerous awards, including the Tennessee State University Presidential Award and the Exemplary Service Award, that recognize his commitment and outstanding work that left his mark at the University and in the community amongst others

WHEREAS, Mr. Wheaton, is affiliated with numerous organizations along with holding several civic or public offices; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wheaton has truly served as an inspiration to his colleagues, faculty and thousand of students alike, and his friendship and counsel are highly valued by those who are fortunate to know him; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wheaton has truly been dedicated and loyal to his profession and Tennessee State University where he "Entered to Learn" and "Continues to Serve" his alma mater; and

WHEREAS, although his friends and colleagues will deeply miss him, Mr. Wheaton will most deservedly spend his retirement with his wife Vesta, children, grandchildren and other family members, partaking in the many hobbies and activities he enjoys; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Mr. Homer R. Wheaton, commend his exceptional service, his professional expertise and personal excellence, and extend to him our heartfelt wishes for a happy, fulfilling and blessed retirement and every continued success in his future endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Homer R. Wheaton on the occasion of his retirement from Tennessee State University.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Homer R. Wheaton.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
