RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1379

A resolution requesting the Nashville Fire Department to have an EMT present at all regular meetings of the Metropolitan Council.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council holds regular meetings at City Hall on the first and third Tuesdays of every month; and

WHEREAS, many citizens of Nashville and Davidson County often attend the regular meetings of the Council, especially zoning public hearing meetings; and

WHEREAS, members of the public attending Council meetings are often very passionate and emotional about issues, which could lead to an increased risk for a medical emergency; and

WHEREAS, The Fire Department frequently stations EMTs at public events to provide rapid response in the event of a medical emergency; and

WHEREAS, due to the large number of persons attending Metro Council meetings at a public facility, it is fitting and proper that the Nashville Fire Department ensure that an EMT is present at all regular Council meetings.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Nashville Fire Department to have an EMT present at all regular meetings of the Metropolitan Council.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Fire Chief Stephen Halford.

Section 3. That the Fire Department is further requested to respond to the Council as to the action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days from the date of adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
