RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1348

A resolution requesting the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greater Nashville Hotel and Lodging Association to take the action necessary to waive parking fees during the summer months to attract regional travelers to Nashville.

WHEREAS, the tourism industry is a vital component of the Nashville economy; and

WHEREAS, the wide variety of activities, events, and tourist attractions makes Nashville an ideal destination city for regional travelers to spend their vacation time; and

WHEREAS, with gasoline prices pushing $3.00 a gallon, many people are likely to avoid driving as much this summer as in past years; and

WHEREAS, various hotels within the Nashville area charge a daily parking fee for hotel guests, which may act as a disincentive for regional drivers to come to Nashville for vacation; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Nashville lodging industry take steps to reduce or eliminate parking fees this summer to encourage regional travelers to visit our city.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greater Nashville Hotel and Lodging Association to take the action necessary to waive parking fees during the summer months to attract regional travelers to Nashville.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Butch Spyridon, the Executive Director of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and to the Greater Nashville Hotel and Lodging Association.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
