RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1327

A resolution requesting the Mayor to deliver the State of Metro address in a public forum so that the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County may attend free of charge.

WHEREAS, since the creation of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County in 1963, the Metropolitan Mayor has given a public address regarding the state of affairs of this city; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor is scheduled to deliver the 43rd annual State of Metro Address on Thursday May 25, 2006, at the Nashville Convention Center; and

WHEREAS, although the State of Metro Address is to be given at a Metropolitan Government facility, persons interested in attending the event must pay a registration fee to the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, the State of Metro Address is an important event in the life of our city and should be open to the public free of charge; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Mayor take the action necessary to ensure that the State of Metro Address is given in a public facility that is open to the public at no cost.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor to deliver the State of Metro address in a public forum so that the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County may attend free of charge.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
