RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1324

A resolution requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to install noise abatement walls along Briley Parkway parallel to Cabin Hill Road.

WHEREAS, Cabin Hill Road is a residential street that runs parallel to Briley Parkway across from the Opry Mills Mall; and

WHEREAS, the residents of Cabin Hill Road have endured constant traffic noise since the construction of Briley Parkway many years ago; and

WHEREAS, this section of Briley Parkway handles a high volume of traffic since it is the main access point for Opryland Hotel and the Opry Mills shopping complex; and

WHEREAS, noise abatement walls have proven to substantially reduce highway noise levels in residential areas; and

WHEREAS, as part of its responsibility for the construction and maintenance of state roads and highways, the Tennessee Department of Transportation often installs noise abatement walls to protect the citizens in the vicinity of the highway; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Tennessee Department of Transportation construct noise abatement walls along Briley Parkway parallel to Cabin Hill Road to limit the negative impact the traffic noise is having on the residents of the area.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to install noise abatement walls along Briley Parkway parallel to Cabin Hill Road.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
