RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1298

A resolution honoring the late Charlie Williams of Davidson County, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, the city of Nashville was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Charlie Williams; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Isaac Litton High School, Mr. Williams continued his education, earning his under-graduate degree from David Lipscomb University and his law degree from Vanderbilt University, and

WHEREAS, Charlie Williams, served as a prominent attorney, while establishing a sterling reputation for unequivocal fairness and unwavering dedication that earned him the respect of his peers, his clients, and the judges before whom he appeared, and

WHEREAS, Charlie worked tirelessly as a Fraternal Order of Police lawyer in the 1970's and 80's to help transform the Metropolitan Police Department into its modern status, and in 2005 he was named one of Nashville's top five personal injury lawyers by the Nashville Post; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Williams was united in marriage to Carol, his wife of over 40 years and from their blessed union was born one daughter, Annie B., and two sons, Charlie, Jr. and Anderson; and as East Nashville residents, Charlie and his wife were pioneers in the revival of East Nashville, particularly Historic Edgefield, having moved to the neighborhood long before East Nashville became fashionable; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Williams, an exemplary public servant and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens will be greatly missed by those who were privileged to have known him and he will be remembered with great affection and admiration; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council take a moment to remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being and reflect upon his impeccable character and commitment to the Nashville community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record to honor and remember Charlie Williams of Davidson County, Tennessee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of Charlie Williams.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
