RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1294

A resolution recognizing the Granbery Recycling/Environmental Awareness program.

WHEREAS, Sharon Force has been the original Recycling Coordinator of the Granbery Recycling/ Environmental Awareness program since 1989, as a way of changing attitudes and habits about solid waste - that is, on 'un-making the garbage'; and

WHEREAS, under Sharon's leadership she has used her vision, skills, energy and long-standing commitment to recycling, that has greatly benefited the citizens, with the discarding of their recyclables; and

WHEREAS, this facility is a year-round weekly Saturday morning recycling drop-off site that is staffed by student volunteers, teachers, parents, and other community members and since the new convenient drop-off site, local businesses and neighbors alike actively participate in recycling in the Granbery community; and

WHEREAS, Granbery Elementary School's recycling/environmental awareness program strives to create responsible stewards by providing consistent, strong messages of the importance of taking care of the Earth, of the importance of making reasonable, responsible choices; and

WHEREAS, Granbery also provides meaningful activities--on a daily basis, whenever possible--that encourages students to put stewardship values into practice; activities that demonstrate that when positive choices are made and actions taken, they do make a difference; and

WHEREAS, Granbery's Recycling/Environmental Awareness program has been recognized numerous times on the local, state and national levels; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Sharon Force, as the Coordinator of the Granbery Recycling/Environmental Awareness program, the students, teachers and parents of Granbery Elementary School and all throughout the community who have participated in making this program a success not only in their community by all of Nashville, Tennessee.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Granbery Recycling/Environmental Awareness program.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Sharon Force on behalf of the Granbery Recycling/Environmental Awareness program.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
