A resolution recognizing Hillsboro High School educator Christian Sawyer.

WHEREAS, Christian Sawyer is widely known throughout the City of Nashville and the state as the personification of excellence in education; and

WHEREAS, Christian Sawyer was one of six Tennessee educators named by the Tennessee Council for the Social Studies (TNCSS) as Outstanding Social Studies Teachers for 2006; and

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Council for the Social Studies (TNCSS) conference was held in Gatlinburg, where six teachers were chosen with two representing elementary, middle and high school, based on creative and effective use of social studies curricula; and

WHEREAS, Christian Sawyer, a highly respected teacher who has served with honor and distinction as a professional educator, while in his second year teaching at Hillsboro High School, teaches Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography and AP European History as well as English II, and is co-sponsor of the National Honor Society; and

WHEREAS, he is an example of the importance that the efforts of individual classroom teachers are making on the quality of education received by the youth of this state; and

WHEREAS, he encourages his students to believe in themselves, to pursue every opportunity, make a commitment to excellence in every aspect of their lives, and to develop a love of learning which will be beneficial to them throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Christian Sawyer for his sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of the young people at Hillsboro High School and on being named one of the Outstanding Social Studies Teachers for 2006.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Hillsboro High School educator Christian Sawyer.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Christian Sawyer.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
