RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1289
A resolution recognizing Conn Hamlett on his retirement from teaching at Goodpasture Christian School.
WHEREAS, Conn Hamlett has been a teacher for 37 years, and has taught at Goodpasture Christian School, in Madison, Tennessee, for 34 of those years; and
WHEREAS, he has announced his retirement from teaching at the end of the 2005-2006 school year; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as teacher, he has directly influenced hundreds of students, and indirectly influenced thousands; and
WHEREAS, on a daily basis, he has taught such subjects as Latin, History, Bible, English, and Art; and
WHEREAS, he has combined his creativity, artistic talents, and love of sports to create a learning environment that inspires his students both to learn and to retain the subjects he teaches; and
WHEREAS, from 1977 through 1988, he served as the faculty sponsor and coach of the Goodpasture High School Quiz Bowl Team; and
WHEREAS, from 1980 to 2000, he was the Club Sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and oversaw numerous charitable and service projects in that 20 year span; and
WHEREAS, from 1988 to 2005, he coached the Goodpasture High School Golf team, and was named District Golf Coach of the Year 12 times; and
WHEREAS, under his leadership, the Goodpasture Golf Team won the TSSAA State Championship three times, in 1992, 2001, and 2005, and was TSSAA State Runner-up in 2000 and 2004; and
WHEREAS, he was thrice named TSSAA State Golf Coach of the Year, in 1992, 2001, and 2005, though he does not play golf; and
WHEREAS, since 1992, he has been featured, along with Duncan Stuart and Brent Dougherty, as an on-air host of the Prime Time Sports Radio Sports Talk Show, broadcast weeknights on 1510 WLAC-AM from Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, he and his wife, Barbara, are faithful Christians, and have been members of Madison Church of Christ since 1980; and
WHEREAS, in addition
to being a teacher and a coach, he is also a dedicated and loving father to
his two sons, Byron and Roger, and to their families; and
WHEREAS, Conn Hamlett epitomizes the spirit and commitment that are characteristic
of a true Tennessean, he has served with great diligence and dexterity and has
positively influenced the lives of many young people; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and applaud Conn Hamlett for his meritorious service as a teacher, coach, and mentor to Tennessee's youth, recognize him for his illustrious teaching and coaching career at Goodpasture Christian School, and wish him every happiness in his retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and commending Conn Hamlett for 34 years of teaching excellence.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Conn Hamlett.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
