RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1288
A resolution recognizing and commending Vanderbilt's own Mike Meyer for his heroic actions.
WHEREAS, the prompt action, quick thinking and composure of athletic trainer Mike Meyer, saved a young athlete's life from certain death when he administered a life-saving shock with the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED); and
WHEREAS, Mike Meyer, athletic trainer with the Vanderbilt University Men's Basketball Team, exhibited extraordinary courage on March 6, 2006, when he came to the aid of Commodore forward Davis Nwankwo; and
WHEREAS, Davis Nwankwo, a 19-year old redshirt freshman from College Park, Maryland, collapsed at a recent Vanderbilt practice while preparing for the Southeastern Conference tournament, when his heart stopped he was administered the life-saving care that he needed by Mr. Meyer; and
WHEREAS, thanks to the efforts of Mike Meyer, Davis Nwankwo is back in class and holds out hope that the future may bring new technology that would allow him to play basketball again; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and commends Mike Meyer for his heroic actions in saving the life of a fellow human being and convey to him their highest respect and admiration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and commending Vanderbilt's own Mike Meyer for his heroic actions.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mike Meyer.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
