RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1285

A resolution requesting the management of Starwood Amphitheatre to increase the number of security staff and police officers during concerts held at the venue.

WHEREAS, Starwood Amphitheatre is an outdoor music venue that hosts numerous concerts throughout the year featuring artists from a variety of music genres; and

WHEREAS, Starwood Amphitheatre has a seating capacity of in excess of 17,000, including both a covered seating area and an open lawn seating area; and

WHEREAS, according to the Starwood Amphitheatre website, the venue employs a trained staff of ushers, security staff, and police officers at all events with the primary goals of ensuring the safety and enjoyment of concert patrons; and

WHEREAS, numerous complaints have been made to the police department and the district Councilmember for the area regarding an inadequate number of security personnel and police officers at certain concerts held at Starwood Amphitheatre; and

WHEREAS, since such a large number of patrons attend concerts at Starwood Amphitheatre, it is fitting and proper that Starwood's management increase in the number of security staff and police officers at events in an effort to fulfill its primary goals of ensuring the safety of patrons.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the management of Starwood Amphitheatre to increase the number of security staff and police officers during concerts held at the venue.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the Starwood Amphitheatre management.

Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
