A resolution recognizing the members of the National Negro High School Basketball (NNHSBB) committee in Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, the NNHSBB committee members: L.M. Ellis, Reunion Coordinator, Alice Epperson, Margerette Chesser, Tom Holbert, Silas Newsome, and Ronald Lawson, Jr., should be recognized for their contributions and commitment in making the first Legends Reunion a success; and

WHEREAS, L.M. Ellis "Brainchild and Reunion Coordinator", who played on the Burt High School 1961 National Championship team, was chosen to the first team All Tournament and coached by Davey L. Whitney and assembled the 32 page souvenir booklet with the use of Charles H. Thompson's LSU Dissertation on The History of the National Basketball Tournaments for Black High Schools; and

WHEREAS, Alice Epperson, Margerette Chesser, Tom Holbert, Silas Newsome, and Ronald Lawson, Jr., assisted in the implementation of the first annual National Negro High School Basketball Legends Reunion; and

WHEREAS, L.M. Ellis, Reunion Coordinator, Alice Epperson, Margerette Chesser, Tom Holbert, Silas Newsome, and Ronald Lawson, Jr., have devoted countless hours of their time, talents, and energy to help make this history making event; and

WHEREAS, together as a committee their dedication, hard work, and professionalism should be commended for making the first annual Legends Reunion a success in Nashville, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the members of the NNHSBB committee for the timeless efforts in making this event a huge success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the members of the National Negro High School Basketball (NNHSBB) committee in Nashville, Tennessee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to L.M. Ellis, Reunion Coordinator, Alice Epperson, Margerette Chesser, Tom Holbert, Silas Newsome, and Ronald Lawson, Jr.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
