RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1201
A resolution recognizing the law firm of Branstetter, Kilgore, Stranch & Jennings.
WHEREAS, the law firm of Branstetter, Kilgore, Stranch & Jennings recently negotiated the settlement of a class action lawsuit on behalf of plaintiffs in 29 states against Dow Chemical Company in which the court directed that $2.9 million go to "an appropriate charitable or government organization"; and
WHEREAS, Branstetter, Kilgore, Stranch & Jennings recommended that Vanderbilt University School of Law be the beneficiary of the settlement, which was approved by the court; and
WHEREAS, Vanderbilt University Law School will use the settlement money to fund the school's new civil litigation and dispute resolution program; and
WHEREAS, Vanderbilt's civil litigation and dispute resolution program was deemed an appropriate recipient, and the law school will use the settlement award to benefit each of the jurisdictions by producing well-educated attorneys in matters concerning settlement agreements; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and congratulate the law firm of Branstetter, Kilgore, Stranch & Jennings for their actions to benefit Vanderbilt University School of Law.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the law firm of Branstetter, Kilgore, Stranch & Jennings.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Cecil Branstetter on behalf of the law firm of Branstetter, Kilgore, Stranch & Jennings.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
