RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1196

A resolution recognizing Mrs. Donna Hilley on the occasion of her retirement from Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville.

WHEREAS, in December of 2005, Donna Hilley, music publisher, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville retired after thirty-two years of service and is well deserving of this recognition; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hilley began her career in the music business as a receptionist for WKDA Radio, she then joined an advertising and public relations firm known internationally as "Tree" officially joining Tree Music in 1973 as an Executive Assistant before being named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, which position she held until 1994 when she was named President and Chief Executive Officer; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hilley oversaw the sale of Tree International to CBS, now Sony Entertainment, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hilley has been actively involved with many community and civic organizations where she currently is Chairman of the Country Music Association Board; serves on the Board of Directors for the Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University, Board Member of Baptist Hospital; serves on the Board of Trustees of Belmont University; serves on Board for Operation Smile; she is a member of and has held various offices in the music industry and served in many capacities with other prominent organizations; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hilley has received a host of well-deserved accolades and awards including in 1996 being named by Business Nashville Magazine as "One of Nashville's Top 10 Most Powerful People in the Music Industry;" in 1995 "One of Nashville's Top 25 Most Influential Women" by Nashville Life Magazine, being named one of Country Music's 10 Most Powerful People by Entertainment Weekly in 1992, "Woman of the Year" in 1978, "Lady Executive of the Year" in 1984, "Women We Admire Most" in 1994; recipient of the Belmont University School of Music's Applause Award in 1992, President's Award from Leadership Music in 1993, received Belmont University's Award of Excellence in 1997, along with numerous other recognitions; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career in the country music industry, Mrs. Hilley has demonstrated leadership, dedication, professionalism, and integrity, winning the respect and admiration of her staff and colleagues, songwriters around the globe, and the entire music industry; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and commend Mrs. Donna Hilley on her truly extraordinary career and accomplishments in the music industry and wish her much happiness on her retirement and continued success in her future endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mrs. Donna Hilley on the occasion of her retirement from Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mrs. Donna Hilley.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
