RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1193

A resolution requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Metro Department of Public Works to make roadway and infrastructure improvements along 28th Avenue North between Interstate 40 and Charlotte Avenue to improve the flow of traffic and protect the safety of the community.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation is responsible for the construction and maintenance of state roads and highways; and

WHEREAS, the Metro Department of Public Works is responsible for the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, highways and streets of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government often enters into intergovernmental agreements with the Tennessee Department of Transportation for improvements to local streets and roads; and

WHEREAS, 28th Avenue North between Interstate 40 and Charlotte Avenue, also known as the connector corridor, is long overdue for infrastructure enhancements to improve the flow of traffic along the corridor; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of North Nashville that the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Metro Department of Public Works take the action necessary to improve this connector corridor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Metro Department of Public Works to make roadway and infrastructure improvements along 28th Avenue North between Interstate 40 and Charlotte Avenue to improve the flow of traffic and protect the safety of the community.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely and to Billy Lynch, the Director of the Metro Department of Public Works.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
