RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1190

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Historical Commission to increase their efforts in applying for state, federal, and nonprofit grants to restore historic properties in Nashville, and to provide periodic updates to the Council regarding such efforts.

WHEREAS, on December 20, 2005, the Metropolitan Council adopted Resolution No. RS2005-1084, which appropriated $50,000 to a contingency account for a Historical Preservation Trust Fund; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of this $50,000 appropriation was to provide seed money for a trust fund that would be used to acquire and preserve historic properties in Davidson County that are in disrepair; and

WHEREAS, as a contingency for use of the $50,000 seed money, the Historical Preservation Trust Fund must raise $50,000 in private matching funds; and

WHEREAS, numerous public and nonprofit organizations provide grant funds for the planning for restoration projects, and to acquire and preserve historic structures; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Historical Commission should take advantage of every grant opportunity in an effort to preserve the historic character of many of Nashville's neighborhoods.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Historical Commission to increase their efforts in applying for state, federal, and nonprofit grants to restore historic properties in Nashville, and to provide periodic updates to the Council regarding such efforts.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Ann Roberts, the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Historical Commission, and to each member of the Metropolitan Historical Commission.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Historical Commission is further requested to respond to the Council as to the action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
