RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1162

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Traffic & Parking Commission to provide one hour of free parking at the Metropolitan Courthouse during business hours.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is currently constructing an underground parking garage in front of the Metropolitan Courthouse in conjunction with a complete renovation of the courthouse interior; and

WHEREAS, various Metropolitan Government offices, in addition to the courts, will be located at the Metropolitan Courthouse once renovations are complete; and

WHEREAS, it is estimated that a portion of the new Courthouse parking garage will be open to the public to provide additional parking opportunities in downtown Nashville; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that citizens conducting business at the Metropolitan Courthouse be provided one hour of free parking in the new Courthouse parking garage.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Traffic & Parking Commission to provide one hour of free parking at the Metropolitan Courthouse during business hours.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the members of the Traffic & Parking Commission.

Section 3. That the members of the Traffic & Parking Commission are further requested to inform the Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

Mr. President:

I move to amend Resolution No. RS2006-1162 by deleting the phrase "one hour", wherein it appears in the caption, the fourth recital clause, and Section 1 of the Resolution, and substituting in lieu thereof the phrase "thirty minutes".
