RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1161

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Election Commission to provide an early voting site in the Antioch/Priest Lake Community for future elections.

WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated §2-6-101, et seq., provides a means for qualified voters to cast their votes prior to the designated election day; and

WHEREAS, the fiscal year 2005-2006 Metropolitan Government Operating Budget Book indicates that the Davidson County Election Commission plans to have one early voting site for the May county primary election, and eight early voting sites for the August general election; and

WHEREAS, according to population projections based on census information included in the Council District handbooks prepared by the Planning Commission staff, the Antioch/Priest Lake community will see a population increase of more than 21,600 persons by the year 2010, which is an increase of approximately seventy percent (70%); and

WHEREAS, although the Antioch/Priest Lake community is experiencing tremendous growth in population and development, there has yet to be an early voting site in this area; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of the Antioch/Priest Lake community that an early voting site be located in this area beginning with the August 2006 general election.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Election Commission to provide an early voting site in the Antioch/Priest Lake Community for future elections.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Ray Barrett, the Administrator of Elections, and to each member of the Davidson County Election Commission.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
