RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1155

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and enact the necessary legislation providing free license plates to veterans.

WHEREAS, T.C.A. §55-4-203 allows certain veterans, including Air Force Cross recipients, disabled veterans, Distinguished Service Cross recipients, for Prisoners of War, Medal of Honor recipients and Navy Cross recipients to obtain motor vehicle license plates without paying a fee; and

WHEREAS, T.C.A. §55-4-228 further allows enlisted National Guard members to register one motor vehicle without paying a registration fee; and

WHEREAS, Americans owe a debt of gratitude to each and every veteran that has placed his/her life in harms way to protect our country; and

WHEREAS, federal, state and local governments should make every effort to show appreciation for our veterans; and

WHEREAS, allowing all veterans in the state of Tennessee to obtain license plates free of charge would be a small token of appreciation for the sacrifices veterans made to protect the United States of America.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and enact the necessary legislation providing free license plates to veterans.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
