RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1136
A resolution recognizing Nashville Urban Venture and Marketstreet Management, LLC, for their outstanding work in redeveloping The Gulch.
WHEREAS, "The Gulch" is an urban neighborhood adjacent to downtown Nashville consisting of approximately 30 acres bordered by the Demonbreun Street viaduct on the north, Eighth Avenue on the east, Interstate 65 on the west, and Division Street on the south; and
WHEREAS, over the past five years, The Gulch has been part of a $400 million redevelopment initiative through the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA); and
WHEREAS, MDHA appointed Nashville Urban Venture as the redeveloper of The Gulch, whose principal investor is the Steve Turner Family; and
WHEREAS, Marketstreet Management, LLC, a partnership consisting of Steve Turner, Jay Turner, and Joe Barker, oversees the development, construction, marketing, and leasing of The Gulch; and
WHEREAS, as a result of Nashville Urban Venture's tireless efforts, The Gulch is being transformed into a fashionable in-town neighborhood with residential communities, retail businesses, restaurants, and clubs where citizens can live, work, and play; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Nashville Urban Venture and Marketstreet Management, LLC, for creating a world-wide model of how urban redevelopment should be undertaken.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby recognizes Nashville Urban Venture and Marketstreet Management, LLC, for their outstanding work in redeveloping The Gulch.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this resolution to be presented to Nashville Urban Venture and Marketstreet Management, LLC. the Metropolitan Historical Commission and the College of Arts and Sciences of Tennessee State University for inclusion in the 2006 commemorative conference program.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
