A resolution recognizing the 2005 Davidson Academy "Bears" football team on the completion of an extraordinary season.

WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize and commend those successful high school teams that, through their magnificent exploits, bring honor to the City of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, led by Head Coach Paul Wade whom should be commended for doing an exceptional job in bringing the winning tradition to Davidson Academy in only his second year as Head Coach; and

WHEREAS, the Davidson Academy "Bears" football team, competing for the first time in Division II, achieved an extraordinary level of success during the 2005 season in establishing a perfect record of ten wins and zero losses in region play and an overall record of ten wins and two loss; and

WHEREAS, on Saturday, November 19, 2005, the 2005 Davidson Academy "Bears" varsity football team captured their first TSSAA Division II Class A State Championship by defeating perennial powerhouse Bishop Byrne in a thrilling win; and

WHEREAS, this phenomenal effort was led by the outstanding performances of Junior Justin Overstreet, named the Offensive MVP, where he threw three touchdown passes, and Junior Eric Davis and Seniors Chase Sneed and Anthony Yarbrough who led the defense by limiting Bishop Byrne to only 89 yards of total offense; and

WHEREAS, the dedication, determination, work ethic, and talent of this group of young men not only made possible a successful and memorable football season, but also points toward their success in every future endeavor; and

WHEREAS, displaying great sportsmanship and outstanding character, the Davidson Academy "Bears" conducted themselves in a manner appropriate to the integrity of the City of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, this remarkable team's performance throughout the season and particularly their final victory over Bishop Byrne which earned them the state championship title provided many thrilling moments for these young athletes and their fellow students and will be long remembered as a special period in the history of "Bears" varsity football; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the 2005 Davidson Academy "Bears" football team on becoming Division II Class A State Champions and convey their heartiest congratulations to the team, coaches, school administrators, and student body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 2005 Davidson Academy "Bears" football team on the completion of an extraordinary season.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Headmaster Bill Chaney and Head Coach Paul Wade on behalf of the team and student body of Davidson Academy.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
