RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1133

A resolution honoring Dr. James T. Draper upon his retirement from LifeWay, and naming January 13, 2006, as "Dr. Jimmy Draper Day" in Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, Dr. Draper will retire from LifeWay on Friday, January 13, 2006, after fourteen years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Draper began his ministry in 1956, and served as pastor of Baptist churches in Oklahoma and Texas prior to joining LifeWay Christian Resources in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Draper has held numerous leadership positions within the Southern Baptist denomination, including serving as president of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1982 to 1984; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Draper served as President and Chief Executive Officer of LifeWay Christian Resources, and is responsible for leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention's education, church programs, and publishing agency; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Draper has traveled to 33 countries around the world, leading in evangelistic services and activities and other types of conferences and meetings with missionaries and nationals; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Draper organized and led the Kenyan Coast Crusade in 1990 with 536 volunteers from 16 states and 81 churches, where over 60,000 professions of faith were made during that crusade; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Dr. Jimmy Draper for his outstanding service.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Dr. James T. Draper upon his retirement from LifeWay, and naming January 13, 2006, as "Dr. Jimmy Draper Day" in Nashville, Tennessee.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Jimmy Draper.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
