A resolution recognizing and commending Christopher C. Whitson, Esq., for his outstanding public service to Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Christopher C. Whitson, Esq., was born in 1962 to Albert and Paula Whitson of Nashville, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Whitson graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Whitson earned a B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Whitson earned a J.D. degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1987; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Whitson is married to the former Julia Higdon of Quincy, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Whitson are the proud parents of Emily, Jack, and Alec Whitson; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Whitson is a Member of the Nashville law firm of Sherrard & Roe, PLC; and

WHEREAS, on August 7, 2003, the people of the 23rd Metropolitan Council District elected Mr. Whitson to represent them in the 11th Metropolitan Council; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure in office, Mr. Whitson served on the Metropolitan Council's Budget and Finance Committee; Parks, Library, Recreation and Public Entertainment Facility Committee; Public Safety - Beer and Regulated Beverages Committee; and Charter Revision Committee; and

WHEREAS, from September 2004 through August 2005, Mr. Whitson served as the chairman of the Charter Revision Committee of the Metropolitan Council; and

WHEREAS, on September 19, 2005, Mr. Whitson, acting from the highest of motives, voluntarily resigned his seat in the Metropolitan Council; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure in office, Mr. Whitson comported himself with singular dignity and grace in the discharge of his duties and provided exemplary leadership on many issues, particularly with regard to issues of fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraint; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council memorialize the departure of Mr. Whitson from its ranks.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby recognizes Christopher C. Whitson, Esq., for his outstanding contributions to our community, thanks him for his service to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee, as Councilman for the 23rd District, and extends to him and to his family the heartfelt felicitations of each and every Member of the Metropolitan Council.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is hereby directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Christopher C. Whitson, Esq.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
