A resolution recognizing and congratulating Jay Cutler on his fabulous football career at Vanderbilt University.

WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize and commend, Jay Cutler, whose departure as quarterback of the Vanderbilt Commodores brings to a close an unprecedented era in the history of Commodore football; and

WHEREAS, a star athlete who began his remarkable career as a Patriot at Heritage Hills High School in Santa Claus, Indiana, and excited fans as a four-year starter at Vanderbilt University, Jay Cutler leaves the Commodores with a legacy of unparalleled determination and perseverance; and is well deserving of such a recognition; and

WHEREAS, Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler was the SEC's leading passer with 3,073 passing yards, also the leader in touchdown passes with 21 and total offense with 3,288 yards, and finishing his career the holder of 20 different school passing and total offense records; and

WHEREAS, Jay Cutler's collegiate career was highlighted by numerous honors, including being named the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year, named to the 2005 Coaches' All-SEC Offense Football Team, first player named to the 2006 Senior Bowl roster, and selected as a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award; and

WHEREAS, this man of indomitable courage and strength of character is also a man of great compassion and generosity of spirit; his selflessness affords him the opportunity to work with mentally-challenged children through Vanderbilt's "Best Buddies" program; and

WHEREAS, with great sportsmanship and outstanding character, Jay Cutler of the Vanderbilt Commodores conducted himself in a manner appropriate to the integrity of the team; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Jay Cutler for his dedication, determination and accomplishments not only on the football field, but in the classroom and wish him success in his future endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Jay Cutler on his fabulous football career at Vanderbilt University.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Jay Cutler.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
