RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-991

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Sheriff to provide the Metropolitan Council with a list of all vehicles and equipment marked with the Sheriff's Office insignia, and an estimate of the cost to have the Sheriff's name visibly marked on all such vehicles and equipment.

WHEREAS, pursuant to Article VII, §1 of the Tennessee Constitution, the voters of Davidson County elect a Sheriff to serve a term of four years; and

WHEREAS, the Davidson County Sheriff has the primary responsibility under the Metropolitan Charter of maintaining custody and control of the Metropolitan correctional facilities; and

WHEREAS, in addition to maintaining the detention facilities, the Sheriff's Office serves civil process within Davidson County and provides community service through the Correctional Services Division consisting of liter removal, alley cleanup, and grass cutting; and

WHEREAS, certain elected officials of the Metropolitan Government who are elected to serve for a limited period of time have their name visibly marked on certain vehicles and equipment under their control; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the name of the Davidson County Sheriff be visibly marked on all Sheriff's Office vehicles and equipment.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Sheriff to provide the Metropolitan Council with a list of all vehicles and equipment marked with the Sheriff's Office insignia, and an estimate of the cost to have the Sheriff's name visibly marked on all such vehicles and equipment.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Sheriff Daron Hall.

Section 3. That the Davidson County Sheriff is further requested to respond to the Council regarding the request identified in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days from the date of adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
