RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-947

A resolution recognizing the Davidson County Sheriff's Office Correctional Services program.

WHEREAS, the Correctional Services Division of the Davidson County Sheriff's Office utilizes inmate labor to provide an array of services throughout the community such as grass cutting for various Metropolitan Government Agencies, alley clean-up, litter removal from public streets and rights-of-way, brush collection, community clean-ups, small renovation projects for nonprofit organizations, and the set-up and tear-down for public events; and

WHEREAS, although funding for the Correctional Services Division was substantially reduced as part of the fiscal year 2005 budget cuts, the Sheriff's Office was still able to provide this important community service, which saved the Metropolitan Government and nonprofit organizations over $1 million; and

WHEREAS, in fiscal year 2005, the Correctional Services Division removed 4,749,155 pounds of litter form the streets, participated in 106 community clean-ups, generated $19,504 in revenue through its recycling program, responded to 6,927 community service requests, and provided over 100,000 hours of work crews using 27,731 inmates for the benefit of the community; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Sheriff Daron Hall, Mike Raines, the Correctional Services Director, and the entire staff of the Correctional Services Division for their hard work and dedication to the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Correctional Services Division of the Davidson County Sheriff's Office for its outstanding contributions to Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Sheriff Daron Hall, Correctional Services Director Mike Raines, and the entire staff of the Correctional Services Division.

Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
