A resolution recognizing Kwadjo Tillman.

WHEREAS, scuba diver, Kwadjo Tillman set out from Nashville, Tennessee to Key West, Florida where his journey took him on a 40-mile boat ride aboard the Sea Eagle to New Ground Reef to explore the Henrietta Marie; and

WHEREAS, this diving adventure was sponsored by Ken Stewart, co-founder of the Tennessee Aquatic Project (TAP) which is a Nashville-based community program that offers scuba diving instruction, which focuses heavily on education, discipline, self-esteem and black history; and

WHEREAS, Kwadjo Tillman, is the youngest certified scuba diver at eleven-years of age to explore the Henrietta Marie site since its discovery; and

WHEREAS, Kwadjo Tillman, spent 20 minutes beneath the Gulf of Mexico after descending 25 feet into history to explore the wreck of the Henrietta Marie, a 17th Century slave ship that sank 300 years ago; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes such an adventurous and well-rounded individual and wishes him many more scuba diving adventures.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Kwadjo Tillman.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Kwadjo Tillman.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
