A resolution recognizing and congratulating Tonya Jones on being named 2005 Tennessee Small-Business Champion.

WHEREAS, it is fitting that we salute those citizens who, through their extraordinary entrepreneurial efforts, have distinguished themselves as successful business professionals and community leaders of whom we can all be proud; and

WHEREAS, one such person is Tonya Jones, who was nominated by her fellow small-business owners in response to her advocacy, diligence and integrity, has been named the 2005 Tennessee Small-Business Champion by The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB); and

WHEREAS, recognized as an outstanding entrepreneur, Tonya Jones is the founder and president of Mark IV Enterprises, Inc, located in Metropolitan Government and Davidson County, a commercial general contractor specializing in tenant construction; and

WHEREAS, the 2005 Tennessee Small-Business Champion Award is given to an individual who demonstrates exemplary achievements in the area of advocacy on behalf of small business and

WHEREAS, Tonya Jones has received other awards and recognitions for her work on behalf of small business in Tennessee and her leadership in the construction industry, including Tennessee Builder of the Year from the Homebuilder Association of Tennessee, Athena Nominee from Women In Construction and as a Better Business Bureau Ambassador of the Year finalist; and

WHEREAS, epitomizing the spirit and commitment that are characteristic of any true Tennessean, Ms, Jones is both a consummate professional and a model public servant who generously shares her many talents with her community, both locally and statewide and nationally; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Tonya Jones, an outstanding entrepreneur and leader in business innovation, for her meritorious service to the citizens of Nashville and offer our congratulations and extend to her our best wishes for every future success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Tonya Jones on being named 2005 Tennessee Small-Business Champion.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Tonya Jones, founder and president of Mark IV Enterprises, Inc.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
