RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-924
A resolution requesting the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, the Nashville Symphony, and the Country Music Hall of Fame to create a world-wide festival of music in Nashville to tie in with the opening of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
WHEREAS, Nashville, Tennessee is known world-wide as "Music City, USA"; and
WHEREAS, although long known for its connection to the country music industry, Nashville has ties to all kinds of distinct and wonderful types of music; and
WHEREAS, the many colleges and universities in the Nashville area have very successful music programs, such as the Fisk Jubilee Singers; and
WHEREAS, Nashville has become the home to many recording studios and major music labels; and
WHEREAS, Nashville is on the verge of opening one of the great symphony halls in the world; and
WHEREAS, people come from all over the world to experience the musical opportunities our city has to offer; and
WHEREAS, a major music festival in Nashville, such as the Speletto festival in Charleston, South Carolina, would promote all types of music, possibly with a common theme, and would be focused on attracting a world-wide audience to come to Nashville; and
WHEREAS, such a program would promote the City, lead to increased tourism, and build on the City's identity as being this country's true "Music City, USA".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the appropriate groups and organizations in this city, headed up by the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, the Nashville Symphony, and the Country Music Hall of Fame, to begin the necessary planning to develop and create a world-wide festival of music in Nashville, tying in with the opening of our world-renowned Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is requested to send a copy of this Resolution to the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, the Nashville Symphony, and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
