RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-913

A resolution requesting the Department of Finance to place a copy of the Mayor's proposed budget book and the substitute budget adopted by the Council in all of the Metropolitan public libraries

WHEREAS, pursuant to the Metropolitan Charter, the Mayor is required to submit a proposed operating budget for the Metropolitan Government for the next fiscal year not later than May 25th; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council traditionally adopts a substitute operating budget in lieu of the Mayor's proposed budget prior to July 1st of the next fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Finance has made great strides in making information about the operating budget for the Metropolitan Government easily accessible through the Nashville.gov website; and

WHEREAS, although the budget information is readily available online, many citizens of Nashville and Davidson County do not have access to a computer, or have difficultly locating information electronically; and

WHEREAS, in order to enable all citizens of the Metropolitan Government to access information about the operating budget, it is fitting and proper that the Department of Finance make copies of the budget books available at the downtown main library and at all public branch libraries in Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Director of Finance to place a copy of the Mayor's proposed budget book and the substitute budget adopted by the Council in all of the Metropolitan public libraries.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to David Manning, the Director of Finance.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
