RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-894

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Hunters Lane High School teacher, Lanita S. Harris being named the 2005-2006 "High School Teacher of the Year" for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

WHEREAS, Lanita S. Harris, educator at Hunters Lane High School, has devoted her career to providing the highest quality education for Tennessee's students and is well deserving of this recognition; and

WHEREAS, a native Nashvillian, Lanita S. Harris is a product of the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System and is a graduate of Hunters Lane High School; and

WHEREAS, she obtained her undergraduate degree from Belmont University, before obtaining her Masters Degree from Tennessee State University before coming to Hunters Lane High School to teach, Advanced Placement English IV (12th) Advanced Placement Literature and Composition International Baccalaureate Language Arts I and English IV (12th); and

WHEREAS, Lanita S. Harris brings enthusiasm and energy to her students, has an excellent repertoire of teaching strategies, creativity, innovation, and vision that has brought invaluable assets to not only the classroom but to Hunters Lane High School; and

WHEREAS, she has received several awards and recognition during her teaching career and is actively involved in her community; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Lanita S. Harris on receiving the "High School Teacher of the Year" award and commends her exceptional service to her students, saluting her professional expertise while wishing her all the best.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Hunters Lane High School teacher, Lanita S. Harris being named the 2005-2006 "High School Teacher of the Year" for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Lanita S. Harris.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
