RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-891
A resolution recognizing District Fire Chief William N. Barnes.
WHEREAS, on May 11, 2005 the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County mourned the loss of a great friend and community servant; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes, was born June 13, 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee; was educated in the public schools of Nashville and Davidson County, graduated from Cumberland High School; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes was united in marriage to Debbie Barnes for twenty-three years; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes was a devoted family man, with one daughter, and three grandchildren, which he adored; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes, a 30-year fire department veteran was employed by the Nashville Fire Department on December 1, 1975, was promoted to the rank of Engineer on April 16, 1990 and Captain on June 1, 1997 and received his final promotion, by the Nashville Fire Department, to the rank of District Chief on February 16, 2002; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes earned the respect of his fellow firefighters by the way he conducted himself on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes was always known for his wonderful sense of humor, support of the Tennessee Titans, and coaching his grandson's softball team; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes was a Third Degree Mason, a Thirty-second Degree Scotish Rite Mason and a member of the Al Menah Shrine Center; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes, truly cared about the welfare of all citizens of Nashville, having lived a life that was dedicated to unselfish service as a public servant; and
WHEREAS, William N. Barnes' passing leaves a void in the lives of the citizens of Nashville, his family and his extended family - the Nashville Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council express their condolences to the family of District Fire Chief William N. Barnes on his passing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing District Fire Chief William N. Barnes.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of District Fire Chief William N. Barnes.
Section 3. The Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
