RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-888

A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation to reserve two sites at the proposed park plaza in front of the Metropolitan Courthouse for a future fire and police memorial.

WHEREAS, construction of a new underground parking garage in front of the Metropolitan Courthouse is currently underway; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council has approved the issuance and use of general obligation bonds for the purpose of constructing the new garage and a new park plaza to be constructed on top of the garage; and

WHEREAS, hundreds of men and women serving as Metropolitan fire fighters and police officers place their lives in danger each day to protect the residents of Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, all Nashvillians owe a debt of gratitude to our police officers and fire fighters for their service, especially those who have lost their lives in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, in an effort to show the appreciation of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County for the service of Metropolitan fire fighters and police officers, and to honor those men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty, it is fitting and proper that sites be reserved at the park plaza for future fire and police memorials.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation to reserve two sites at the proposed park plaza in front of the Metropolitan Courthouse for a future fire and police memorial.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the members of the Board of Parks and Recreation and to Mayor Bill Purcell.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
