A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Police Department to implement the "How's My Driving?" program for teens.

WHEREAS, according to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis, 7,884 15 to 20-year old drivers were involved in fatal crashes, which is a five percent increase from the 7,484 involved in 1993; and

WHEREAS, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15 to 20 year olds; and

WHEREAS, various programs have been developed in an effort to increase teenage driving safety; and

WHEREAS, one such program, known as "How's My Driving?", consists of placing a bumper sticker on teenage drivers' vehicles containing a number for other motorists to call and report the teens' driving behaviors; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Police Department implement the "How's My Driving?" program for teens to encourage safe driving behavior and to help protect the lives of Nashville's young people.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Police Department to implement the "How's My Driving?" program for teens.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Chief of Police Ronal Serpas.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
