RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-843

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission and the Metropolitan Department of General Services to restrict the parking spaces at City Hall reserved for Members of Council to be used for official city business only.

WHEREAS, certain parking spaces located at City Hall are reserved for use by Members of Council; and

WHEREAS, various Members of Council routinely use these parking spaces while at work during the day; and

WHEREAS, the Council Ethics Review Taskforce recently made a recommendation to the Council regarding a proposed new ethics ordinance in an effort to improve public confidence in the integrity of the Council; and

WHEREAS, allowing Members of Council to use the reserved parking spaces at City Hall other than for official Council business may be viewed by some constituents as an improper use of Metropolitan Government property; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that these parking spaces at City Hall be restricted to official Council business only.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission and the Metropolitan Department of General Services to restrict the parking spaces at City Hall reserved for Members of Council to be used for official city business only.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each Member of the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission and to Nancy Whittemore, the Director of the Department of General Services.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
