RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-842

A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Metropolitan Department of General Services to construct a "Wall of Fame" at City Hall to honor citizens of Nashville and Davidson County who have made significant contributions to the community.

WHEREAS, Nashville and Davidson County is blessed to have many outstanding citizens that have contributed and continue to contribute their time and energy to make this city a better place to live, work, and play; and

WHEREAS, the contributions of many of these outstanding citizens of Nashville and Davidson County are never publicly recognized; and

WHEREAS, constructing a Citizen Wall of Fame at City Hall would provide a means for outstanding citizens and community leaders to be formally recognized for their contributions; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government could provide a mechanism for citizens and city leaders to nominate persons to be included as part of the Wall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government take the steps necessary to construct a Wall of Fame at City Hall for the purpose of providing recognition to citizens that make important contributions to our community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Metropolitan Department of General Services to construct a "Wall of Fame" at City Hall to honor citizens of Nashville and Davidson County who have made significant contributions to the community.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution by electronic mail, U.S. Mail, or interdepartmental mail to Mayor Bill Purcell and to Nancy Whittemore, the Director of the Department of General Services.

Section 3. The Mayor and the Department of General Services are further requested to report to the Metropolitan Council within sixty (60) days as to the feasibility of and/or actions taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
