RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-810

A resolution honoring Mr. Ronnie Steine for his service to the community and to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

Whereas, Ronnie Steine was born in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated from Peabody Demonstration School; and

Whereas, he graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1978 and earned a J.D. degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1982; and

Whereas, he has devoted his life to community and public service for the benefit of the people of Nashville and Davidson County; and

Whereas, he has been active in support of the arts, having served on the board of the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, and also in sports, having served on the board of the Nashville Sports Council, the board of the Nashville Tennis Association, and was President of the Nashville STARS (World Basketball League); and

Whereas, he has been active in civic and religious organizations including Congregation Micah, Temple, Ohabi Shalom, the Jewish Community Center, Masonic Lodge No. 414, and the Rotary Club; and

Whereas, Ronnie Steine has distinguished himself with his service to the youth of Nashville serving as Executive Director of the Oasis Center from 1995 - 2001, and serving on the boards of Madeline Project of Vanderbilt Child and Family Policy Center, Cumberland Science Museum, and National Network for Youth; and

Whereas, he has been active in politics having served as Chairman of the Davidson County Democratic Executive Committee and as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention; and

Whereas, Mr. Ronnie Steine faithfully served this community as a Council Member-at-Large from 1991 - 1999, serving on various committees, and as President Pro-Tem of the Council; and

Whereas, Mr. Steine was elected Vice Mayor of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County in 1999; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan County Council go on record to honor Mr. Ronnie Steine for his service to this community and this government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Mr. Ronnie Steine for his service to this community and to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Mr. Ronnie Steine.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
