RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-804

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Maplewood Comprehensive High School principal, Sam Braden on being named the 2005-2006 "High School Principal of the Year" for the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

WHEREAS, it is fitting that we recognize those outstanding principals who have devoted their careers to providing the highest quality education for Tennessee's students; and

WHEREAS, Sam Braden is one such educator who has served with distinction for three years as principal of Maplewood Comprehensive High School and has distinguished himself as a professional with dedication, ability, and integrity and is well deserving of this recognition; and

WHEREAS, Sam Braden was recently selected as "High School Principal of the Year" by his colleagues, an honor most befitting his outstanding tenure as a principal, as it recognizes the positive influence he has had on so many young lives; and

WHEREAS, a native of Nashville, Sam Braden, is a product of the Metropolitan Nashville Public School system and a graduate of Hume-Fogg; and

WHEREAS, Sam Braden earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Tennessee State University and continues to further his education by working on his Doctoral Degree in Administrative and Supervision at Tennessee State University; and

WHEREAS, he began his educational career as a science and math teacher for John Trotwood Moore and Ewing Park Middle Schools before advancing into the schools administration as Assistant Principal at Two Rivers Middle School in 1996, Principal at Highland Heights Middle School in 1999, Principal at Apollo Middle School in 2000, before being named Principal of Maplewood Comprehensive High School in 2002; and

WHEREAS, throughout his illustrious tenure, especially as Principal of Maplewood Comprehensive High School, Sam Braden has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, enthusiasm, strong leadership and dedication by providing quality education to a diverse population of students; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Braden, is involved in several professional organizations in addition to receiving several awards and recognitions for his work while seeking ways to encourage students to complete their high school education; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Sam Braden on being chosen the "High School Principal of the Year" and commend him for his exceptional service to his staff, faculty, students and community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Maplewood Comprehensive High School principal, Sam Braden on being named the 2005-2006 "High School Principal of the Year" for the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Principal Sam Braden of Maplewood Comprehensive High School.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
