RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-798
A resolution requesting the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management to work in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police Department to implement a broad-based reverse 911 system.
WHEREAS, Nashville has a limited reverse 911 system that can now be used, but it is not nearly sufficient to reach the citizens of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County on a large scale basis; and
WHEREAS, a broad-based reverse 911 system, if implemented correctly, can be utilized to quickly notify large groups of citizens that may need information that, in some cases, may be life-saving in nature; and
WHEREAS, a broad-based system can also be utilized, if appropriate, for assisting with other essential functions of government; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management to work in conjunction with the Metro Police Department to implement a broad-based reverse 911 system for Nashville and Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting that the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management work in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police Department to implement a broad-based reverse 911 system which can be utilized in case of emergencies to notify affected citizens.
Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution by U.S. mail or electronic mail to the director of the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management and to the Chief of Police.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
