RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-742
A resolution proclaiming the week of April 2nd through April 9th as the Week of the Young Child for 2005.
WHEREAS, Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration sponsored by the Nashville, Tennessee, and National Associations for the Education of Young Children and their affiliates; and
WHEREAS, Organizations, schools, and individuals throughout Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson Country in conjunction with the Nashville Area Association for the Education of Young Children are celebrating the Week of the Young Child; and
WHEREAS, "Celebrate Children! The Rhythm of our Future" is the 2005 theme for Week of the Young Child and reflects the value Music City USA places on our youngest citizens; and
WHEREAS. The purposes of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the early childhood programs and services that support children and families; and
WHEREAS, Research has clearly shown that investing in quality early childhood services has both positive short-term and long-term positive effects; and
WHEREAS, the benefits of quality early childhood education include lower crime rates, higher graduation rates, and a better educated work force; and
WHEREAS, the Week of the Young Child is a time to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child receives the essential services and supports that promote and enhance their development; and
WHEREAS, the children of our community are everyone's responsibility, the Metropolitan Council unites with the Nashville Area Association for the Education of Young Children, Vanderbilt University, Metro Action Commission, Nashville Libraries, The Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Metro Parks and Recreation, the Adventure Science Center, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, and numerous other community organizations throughout Nashville, Tennessee, and the United States to celebrate the Week of the Young Child; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting, proper, and of the utmost importance that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the importance of high quality early childhood services to our children's and our city's future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming the week of April 2nd through April 9th as the Week of the Young Child for 2005.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Nashville Area Association for the Education of Young Children, on behalf of their leadership during the Week of the Young Child.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
