RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-721

A resolution recognizing Seikichi Sato for a lifetime of tireless dedication and devoted service to Miyagi Prefecture and his beloved home town, Kakuda.

WHEREAS, in 1955 Seikichi Sato began working to improve public education, advance agricultural techniques and preserve Miyagi Prefecture's lumber industry through conservation and scheduled replanting techniques by writing and publishing 13 books and a documentary to help educate his contemporaries about possible solutions to these challenges, and

WHEREAS, Seikichi Sato served 4 successive terms in the Prefectural Legislature from 1975 -1991, where he not only made numerous contributions to Miyagi Prefecture's and Kakuda City's growth and development, but insured the preservation of their culture and history, and

WHEREAS, Seikichi Sato, entering his third term as the Mayor of Kakuda City, has demonstrated professionalism, diligence and foresight by working to make Kakuda City's school system one of the first in Japan to teach English to its students in grades 1 through 6; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Seikichi Sato for his impeccable character as a public servant and human being, and his strong commitment to providing the best for Kakuda City and its many residents.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Mayor Seikichi Sate for his lifetime of tireless public service.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mayor Seikichi Sato.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
