WHEREAS, the Nashville Civic Design Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating the quality of Nashville's built environment and promoting public participation in the creation of a more beautiful and functional city for all; and
WHEREAS, in December 2000 the Nashville Civic Design Center was established through the collaboration of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davison County, the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency, the University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, and the private sector, and opened its doors in June 2001; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Civic Design Center directs its resources towards working with individuals, neighborhoods and organizations that apply for its assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Civic Design Center does not charge for its assistance, nor replicate the work of existing government agencies, nor provide services that compete with design professionals; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Civic Design Center leads community discussions and workshops, conducts research to further the understanding of the relationship between Nashvillians and their built environment, and initiates independent research aimed at developing a collective vision for Nashville; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Civic Design Center brought together over 800 citizens of Nashville, from many different parts of the community, to document their collective vision for downtown Nashville and its surrounding neighborhoods, which has come to be known as The Plan of Nashville; and
WHEREAS, The Plan of Nashville's purpose is to assist the direction of future government and private development in the downtown area towards the realization of a vision that encourages investment in Nashville, while it enables Nashvillians to measure the value of individual projects against that collective vision; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Nashville Civic Design Center, the Board of Directors of the Nashville Civic Design Center, and the hundreds of citizens who volunteered thousands of hours creating the Plan of Nashville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
