RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-711
A resolution recognizing businessman and former Councilman Ralph Cohen.
WHEREAS, the passing of Ralph Cohen on January 11, 2005, at the age of 76, has brought a great loss to the family and friends of this beloved individual and who should be recognized for his contributions and services as a tireless public servant; and
WHEREAS, well-known as an established businessman to his west Nashville neighbors he owned and operated Cohen Do-It-Yourself-Plumbing & Electric on Charlotte Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cohen, a former Metropolitan Council representative, entered the political arena and was elected to represent the 24th District from 1980 to 1987; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cohen was an exemplary citizen and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in numerous capacities, most particularly in the welfare and the future of this city; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his vast and diverse career in business and politics, Mr. Cohen was an advocate for continuing education by serving as chairman of the Community Education Program for the Cohn Adult Learning Center, which offers education programs to adults; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cohen served as past president of Big Brothers and B'Nai B'rith, was devoted to the West Nashville Kiwanis Club, an active member with the Nashville Chamber of Commerce and helped with revitalizing the Richland Park Business District; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and express to the family and friends of businessman and former Councilman Ralph Cohen our deepest sympathy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing businessman and former Councilman Ralph Cohen.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of businessman and former Councilman Ralph Cohen.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
