RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-709

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation to name the annual Men's and Women's Municipal Amateur Golf Championships in honor of James H. (Jim) Fyke.

WHEREAS, on March 31, 2003, James H. (Jim) Fyke, retired as Director of the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation after thirty-eight years of faithful service to the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fyke began his parks career as a Sports Supervisor in 1964 where he served until 1970, served as Superintendent of Administration and Special Services from 1970-1978, and in 1978 he was appointed director of the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation, a position which he held with distinction; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as Director some of his major accomplishments include the reinstatement of the Men's Municipal Amateur Golf Championship and the founding of the Women's Municipal Amateur Golf Championship, both of which are played on Metro Parks golf courses, and the development of the Tennessee PGA First Tee inner city youth golf renovation project at Riverview Golf Course in Shelby Park; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his tireless efforts for the improvement of recreational opportunities for both children and adults alike, it is fitting and proper that the Men's and Women's Municipal Amateur Golf Championships be named in honor of James H. (Jim) Fyke.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation to name the annual Men's and Women's Municipal Amateur Golf Championships in honor of James H. (Jim) Fyke.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Roy Wilson, the Director of Parks, and to each member of the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
