RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-705
A resolution requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to use two white lines to designate High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes.
WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation opened its first High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in 1993; and
WHEREAS, over the past decade, over seventy-five miles of HOV lanes have been included in urban areas of the state in an effort to reduce the number of single occupant vehicles using the interstate system and encourage carpooling; and
WHEREAS, HOV lanes are designated by special signage and a single white line; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the State Department of Transportation designate HOV lanes using two white lines to better obtain the attention of motorists and discourage single occupant vehicles from traveling in the HOV lanes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to use two white lines to designate High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes.
Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution by U.S. mail or electronic mail to Gerald Nicely, the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation.
