RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-678
A resolution requesting the Mayor and all department heads of the Metropolitan Government to notify district councilmembers whenever Metro property is to be used for unusual large events that would likely cause residents of the area to have security concerns.
WHEREAS, Nashville, Tennessee has been chosen as one of five United States cities to hold out-of-country elections for Iraqi expatriates; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Nashville and the Metropolitan Council are proud to have the largest Kurdish population in the United States and are honored that Nashville was chosen as a voting site to allow Iraqi people now living in America to participate in the election for Iraq's Transitional National Assembly to be held January 28-30; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the collapse of Saddam Hussein's regime, the Iraqi people will be able to participate in a democratic election for the first time in their lives; and
WHEREAS, along with the joy and pride of holding the out-of-country elections in Nashville, security and safety issues have caused many residents near the polling places to be concerned; and
WHEREAS, residents of Nashville and Davidson County look to their elected officials, especially district councilmembers, to voice their concerns and opinions about issues that directly impact them; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that district councilmembers be notified whenever Metropolitan Government property is being considered for holding large events that would likely bring security concerns to residents in the area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and all department heads of the Metropolitan Government to notify district councilmembers whenever Metro property is to be used for unusual large events that would likely cause residents of the area to have security concerns.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution by electronic mail or interdepartmental mail to Mayor Bill Purcell and to all Metropolitan Government department directors.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
