RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-677

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly and the Tennessee Department of Transportation to take the action necessary to expedite the widening of Nolensville Road from Old Hickory Boulevard to the Williamson County line.

WHEREAS, Nolensville Road is a state road located in Davidson County that is maintained by the Tennessee Department of Transportation; and

WHEREAS, Nolensville Road at Old Hickory Boulevard has been identified as one of the worst traffic areas in Davidson County, and a recent traffic study rates this section of roadway as an "E" in the grading of streets and intersections, just one grade above the worst possible grade of "F"; and

WHEREAS, several new commercial and residential developments in the Nolensville Road area have exacerbated the traffic congestion problem during peak hours; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Department of Public Works has identified the area of Nolensville Road from Old Hickory Boulevard to the county line as being in desperate need of widening; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the State of Tennessee move the widening of Nolensville Road up in priority to help alleviate traffic and safety concerns associated with this section of roadway.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly and the Tennessee Department of Transportation to take the action necessary to expedite the widening of Nolensville Road from Old Hickory Boulevard to the Williamson County line.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution by U.S. mail or electronic mail to Gerald Nicely, the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, and to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the General Assembly.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
