RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-663

A resolution recognizing the 2004 Donelson Christian Academy “Wildcats” football team.

WHEREAS, this superlative team completed a successful season of football competition by marching through their opponents while posting an outstanding record of 15 wins and 0 losses in advancing to the TSSAA State Championship Class 1A Blue Cross Bowl; and

WHEREAS, on Friday, December 3, 2004, the 2004 Donelson Christian Academy “Wildcats” varsity football team captured the State 1A Championship by defeating perennial powerhouse Boyd-Buchanan in a thrilling overtime win; and

WHEREAS, the team was led by 2004 Coach of the Year Dennis Goodwin, whom should be commended for doing an exceptional job in bringing the winning tradition to Donelson Christian Academy; and

WHEREAS, Senior Chris Wooden was named the Offensive MVP of the Blue Cross Bowl, Mark Thompson received the Tennessee American General Mr. Football award and Senior Mark Thompson, Offensive Linemen, Senior Chris Wooden, Running Back, Senior Jim Fenwick, Athlete and Senior Ryan Fields, Defensive Back were chosen to represent Donelson Christian Academy on the Class 1A All-State Football team selected by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association; and

WHEREAS, these fine young athletes put tremendous effort into the development of their offensive and defensive skills and their precision and coordination as a team; and

WHEREAS, the achievement of this level of excellence in the game of football requires an outstanding spirit of dedication, enthusiasm, and determination by all persons involved in the team’s success; and

WHEREAS, this remarkable team’s performance throughout the season and particularly their final victory over Boyd-Buchanan which earned them the championship title provided many thrilling moments for these young athletes and their fellow students and will be long remembered as a special period in the history of “Wildcats” varsity football; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the 2004 Donelson Christian Academy “Wildcats” football team on becoming State 1A Champions and convey their heartiest congratulations to the team, coaches, school administrators, and student body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 2004 Donelson Christian Academy “Wildcats” football team.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Head Coach Dennis Goodwin on behalf of the team.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
