RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-662

A resolution recognizing Stratford High School.

WHEREAS, Stratford High School was named most improved school in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School district; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Elliott-Johnson, Principal has served students, staff and Stratford High School exceedingly well for many years; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Principal Elliott-Johnson Stratford High School has improved curriculum and instruction, raised test scores, solidified community-school relationships and enhanced technology; and

WHEREAS, Stratford High School made these improvement in NCLB requirements from 2003 to 2004, Obtained AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) in ALL assessed academic areas, Increased percentage of students passing the Math Gateway from 62% to 83%, Ranked 2nd out of the eleven metro comprehensive high schools in math achievement, Increased percentage of students passing the English Gateway/11th grade Writing Assessment from 77% to 82%, Ranked 5th of the eleven metro comprehensive high schools in language/writing achievement; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the accomplishments of Principal Brenda Elliott-Johnson, her staff, and the students of Stratford High School in obtaining the honor of most improved school in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School district.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Stratford High School.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Principal Brenda Elliott-Johnson on behalf of Stratford High School.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
