RESOLUTION NO. RS2005-1090

A resolution requesting the Mayor's Office, the Finance Department, and the General Services Department to review the requirements and take steps, if appropriate, to consider participating in the Courthouse Campaign sponsored through the National Association of Counties

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is currently undertaking major renovations to several government buildings, including a complete remodeling of its City Hall and Courthouse; and

WHEREAS, in its efforts to renovate or build new facilities in the City, Nashville should strive to make those buildings energy-efficient; and

WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties created a program that encourages counties to take the necessary steps to improve the environment by taking the steps that save energy in their governmental buildings; and

WHEREAS, the Courthouse Campaign, which began in 2004, already has over fifty counties across the country that have taken on the commitment to become energy efficient; and

WHEREAS, now is an appropriate time for the County to consider joining in with this very important goal.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Office of the Mayor, the Finance Department, and the General Services Department to take the necessary steps to review and then, if deemed appropriate, to take the steps to become a participant in the National Association of Counties' Courthouse Campaign.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is requested to send a copy of this Resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance Department, and the General Services.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
